Background:

Jim Stevens has raced for over 35 years and has many accomplishments. He raced Stock Cars in the late sixties in the Denver, Colorado area. Where he and his brother had consecutive years with top ten finishes. He then switched to motorcycles and raced motocross and finished third in 1972 and seventh in 1973.

In 1973 he suffered a spinal cord injury as a result of a racing accident. He was sidelined for the next 9 years.

He found another way to satisfy his need to compete, he learned to ski. He felt those old competitive urges and started racing competitively. He raced for the next 5 years and was a consistent top five finisher in the nation. He had also finished 4th at the National Championships in New Zealand 1984.

He has raced wheelchairs in distance races mostly

10 Kilometer and two marathons.

He began racing Legends Cars 8years ago. He finished in the top fifteen twice 97 and 98, in 99 he finished 9th.. He was the Nebraska State Champion in the Masters Division 99 and finished 10th in points at Rocky Mountain Raceway in Salt Lake City, UT 99. 2000 Jim was 12th in points at Dodge City Raceway Park, 2001 he finished 14th DCRP. He was 10th in Colorado for 2001.

Jim had finished 3rd in the point in the Masters Division for 2002 in the state of Colorado. Jim was awarded the Sportsman of the Year for 2003. 2004 Jim finished 5th in points in the Masters division in Colorado. He ran a limited schedule 2005 2006 2007. 2008 jim is focusing on races at I-25 Speedway looking for top 10 in points there.

Jim hopes to be a role model, to encourage other disabled individuals to set goals and go for them. He also feels, “the only limits are those which we impose upon ourselves”. It is important to have dreams and work to achieve them.

Jim has a daughter and two grandchildren. He works as a Social Worker and has Sports Marketing co. in Denver CO.
