Steven Paul Newton, 58, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, June 7, 2013 at his home. At his request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 14, at Christ The King Catholic Church in Gering with Father Gerald Harr as Celebrant. Inurnment will be held at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Steve's honor be made in care of the American Heart Association or the Festival of Hope. Online condolences may be left at www.jolliffefuneralhome.com. Jolliffe Funeral Home and Crematory in Scottsbluff is in charge of arrangements.

Steve was born on Dec. 8, 1954 in Alliance, to Dale and Lorene (Rohrbouck) Newton. He later lived in Crete for several years where he owned and operated a glass shop and also worked in Ord. After moving to Scottsbluff, he went to work for the UPRR where he worked for over 20 years as an engineer driving trains.

Steve loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and especially racing his Legends car at Highway 92 Raceway. He also raced in Texas, Colorado and Wyoming. Steve loved spending time with family;
especially spoiling his nieces and nephews and great-nieces and greatnephew. Steve took great pleasure being involved and donating quilts and gifts to the annual Union Christmas Party to benefit children. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his mother, Lorene Newton of Gering; brothers, Robert (Nancy) Newton of Gering and Mike (Andrea) Newton of Chesapeake, Va.; nieces and nephews, Robbie, Jennifer, Amy, Heather, Chris, Jeff and Greg; four great-nieces and a great-nephew; and numerous other relatives, cousins and extended work and play family and friends. His father Dale Newton and brother Rick (Ernie) Newton preceded Steve in death.
