RMLRA season opener washed out

After many weeks of anticipation to see the cars back on the track, the day was finally here. It was too bad that the weather did not hold out for the drivers and fans. Twenty-eight Legends race cars practiced Saturday afternoon for the races on Saturday evening. After qualifying and the opening ceremonies the Legends went on to the track for the Trophy Dash and the first scheduled race of the night. During the first parade lap the rain started to fall and the track made the call to cancel the races for the evening. This was the second year in a row for the Legends having their opening night rained out. The schedule calls for the next race to be held May 3, at Colorado National Speedway.

There were six rookies on hand last night, #30 Darrell J. Stewart, #5 Randy Haynes, #99 Brady Van Matre, #64 Randy Rooker, #77 Jace Pennetta and #28 Don Brunker.

In qualifying Saturday night Chris Eggleston had the quickest time with a 18:608. All twenty-eight cars received plenty of time to practice as the sun was out all afternoon. The clouds moved in and the rain started at about 5:00 PM. From what I heard all cars passed the safety inspections and should be good to go in two weeks.

Several cars did not make the long trip to CNS Saturday as possibly threatening weather was an easy call to not travel a long distance. For all of you who did show, thank you. Cars on hand were, #3, 5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 19, 20, 22, 25, 26, 28, 30, 31, 34, 46, 47, 64, 66, 77, 84, 99, 03, 04, 06, 07, 09.
