![]() National Qualifiers August 25-26/ Hwy 92 Raceway Park/ Big Country Speedway The two day weekend of racing is just about upon us and if you may be close to I-25 northbound you should see race car trailers heading north towards Cheyenne and then east to Nebraska. The RMLRA will be headed to Gering, Nebraska for their Friday night races at Hwy 92 Raceway Park. This weekends two races at Gering and Cheyenne, Wyoming are national qualifier races. At one time several years ago the RMLRA set up a three day schedule over Labor Day weekend with races in Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado with three straight nights of national qualifiers. The racing was great and many cars from out of our area came to race. The first year there were so many cars that we had to split up the features with two categories of Y-L and S-P racing the first feature and then the Pro’s and Masters racing the second feature. By the time the three days of racing was over, it was time to rest up. It would be nice to try it again if we could schedule it again for 2018. This season, the races in Gering with the sponsorship of NAPA of Cheyenne, the races have been successful. The racing at Big Country Speedway have been sponsored by Fantastic Sam’s. Thanks to these sponsors for keeping the Legend race cars active at these tracks. Thanks to Glen and Brad Tilton for their part of sponsoring the races at Gering with NAPA as the Legend sponsor. At Big Country Speedway, Carol Adkison of Fantastic Sam’s has helped promote the Legend racing this season. If you have friends or family living in the Cheyenne area tell them what these sponsors are doing to promote racing at these two tracks, and to patronize these sponsors. I would also like to take time to compliment the RMLRA drivers who are making a push to try for a National championship. Not only do you have to accumulate points during the season but you also have to have a great race at the Asphalt Nationals and be in position to claim the championship. This season the Wildlife Racing Team of DL and DJ Stewart are atop their divisions as we head to the conclusion of the regular season. Scotty Scott is also in the top five drivers, as the season is coming to a close. He is looking for the opportunity to get back to Las Vegas for a repeat on his 2016 Masters championship. Several drivers are definitely in contention at this time. Nick Cooper Pro and Jason Hulvey, Masters are drivers listed in the top ten presently. Cody Dempster who is having a great season is also in the top five in the Young Lions division. To accomplish this feat there are many of hours spent in the garage working on the race car so it will perform at the track. And don’t forget the many hours on the road traveling to and from the races. The Wildlife Racing Team this season has raced at the Bullring in Las Vegas, Texas Motor Speedway and at Meridian Speedway in Idaho plus many of the races with the RMLRA in our area. Go to the USLCI web page and find you or your favorite driver and see where they stand in the standings. |
