Saturday night, the RMLRA 2010 Awards Banquet was held and
trophies were handed out to the top ten drivers. Points checks for drivers will
also be handed out to drivers for their positions achieved during the 2010
season. The points checks are courtesy of ZMax a national sponsor for Legend
Cars. The top five drivers this past season raced the required number of
races at various tracks in our area.
Kyle Clegg took home the top prize as the 2010 champion,
with Wayne Barlock Jr., Corey Seip, Brittany Duncan and Bill Seip as the top
five drivers in the points race.
Kyle McCartney won the most Improved Driver of the Year,
and Chris Cooper was selected as Rookie of the Year. In the National points
race Bill Seip won the Colorado Masters division, Corey Seip the Colorado Pro
division, and Chris Cooper was the Colorado Young Lions champion. I did not
hear who the semi pro winner was, but I am thinking it was Brittany Duncan. The
trophies were donated by Mike Leary, Leary Racing Products.
Phil Peconi the out going president was the banquet emcee.
He briefly talked about the Alone and Unafraid sponsorship and what it meant to
soldiers wounded and returning to civilian life after serving in the armed
forces of the United States. Remembering the short life of Garrett O’Neil who
drove the #0 in his short career. John Baker #93 who was injured in 2009 and
has not been completely healed. Phil talked about the safety of the sport.
The 2011 officials will meet Tuesday evening to discuss the
upcoming season. I will attend the meeting and pass along to you what I can
without anything being held back for further discussion.
John Ulander who has been racing Legend cars with his sons
for the past three seasons, will assume the leadership of the RMLRA for the
2011 season. Jim Stevens will handle the vice president duties. Jim has been
with the Colorado Legends since 1996. He drives the #88 car and will make a
good officer for the club. Dan Clegg and Jon Krizman return as board members
and Scotty Scott #6 and Scott Miller will also join the officers for 2011 as
board members. Scott Miller #19 returns after taking some time off from Legend
racing. Scotty Scott has been racing Legends for the past three seasons and has
been in charge of the RMLRA web site.
