Two-Way Radio Notification - 5/16/2017

USCLI posted a new rule change last week stating that two way radios were now legal in all INEX events.  This rule is not-mandatory and is subject to track approval.

The RMLRA board talked to the four tracks on our schedule to determine if they would allow radios during our races.  The tracks agreed that they would prefer to not change this rule during the middle of the season.  This means drivers will not be permitted to use two way radios during 2017 RMLRA races. This includes during race day practice, qualifying and all races.

After this season, we will discuss this issue during our upcoming membership meetings as a board, and coordinate with the four tracks to determine the direction for radios.

An additional concern was raised on the overall radio approach that we will continue discussing as a board and club.  USLCI Nationals are in Las Vegas this year and many RMLRA drivers will travel to this event.  Our drivers will be competing against many drivers from other states where they have used the radios all season.  This means our drivers will be playing catch up with those drivers.  In an effort to level the playing field, the RMLRA board will work with the tracks to organize a practice day or race at the end of the year where drivers can use their radios.  Any opportunities to use the radios for this experience will be communicated in advance through all of the club’s media outlets and at the races.

The club officers have spent a lot of time working with the tracks and trying to consider all points of view to come up with a fair approach for the 2017 season.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact any board member to discuss.

Thank you again for all of your support and participation in 2017.
